9A- The Emotionally Intelligent Community: It Truly Takes a Village - Justin Nichols

The purpose of this workshop is to increase self-awareness and other factors of emotional intelligence in practitioners toward developing communities that empower youth development. Special attention will be given to how emotional intelligence can be used to create partnerships with local and regional agencies to foster safe environments for youth. 

9B - Family Friendly Schools Certification - Laura Beard & Brooke Gill

Location: Willis

The Kentucky Collaborative for Families and Schools developed a comprehensive family engagement training and certification process for the 21-22 school year. Sixty schools, including early care centers, are participating in a learning cohort and nine schools have recently completed successful applications for certification, in this inaugural year. This session will cover the resources and materials available for family engagement and discuss the certification process for schools who wish to apply.

9C - It's Not Just A Mandate: Best Practices for Addressing Suicide within Schools - Mr. Beck Whipple, BA; Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities; Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention Enhancement Specialist

Using a foundation of promoting mental wellness, coordinators will be introduced to a comprehensive toolkit to use within various school roles. In this session, coordinators will learn best practices for suicide prevention, intervention and postvention. 

9D - Go Beyond Trauma-Informed to Trauma-Ready!! - Heather Bushelman, Kentucky Department of Education

We all know that more students and staff have experienced trauma than ever before!   However, many schools are struggling to implement daily practices to proactively be trauma-ready.  During this session, we will review different types of trauma and effects on the brain, ideas for training schoolwide staff to implement trauma-based practices for tier 1, collaborative strategies to use with school staff for tier 2 and 3 supports and interventions, and create a personalized MTSS model focused on the CDC 6 guiding principles of trauma-informed schools.  

9E - AmeriCorps in Your Community - Getting Things Done! - Heather Musinski, Carie Kizziar, Serve Kentucky, Portfolio Manager

Through our nation’s most trying times, AmeriCorps has been there. Disaster response, the opioid crisis, academic achievement – these are just a few areas where AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers have made a difference in communities. In this session you will learn about how AmeriCorps is active in Kentucky, in your community and how you can partner with AmeriCorps to make a difference in your school. Presenters have served with Kentucky AmeriCorps programs for over 30 years combined. We are excited to share what we know to help you add to your community resources.

9F - Trends in Mental Health - Lisa King

In a culture where outrage has become commonplace, how can we help our kids and communities see the pitfalls that this creates? While it’s apparent that being constantly outraged and divisive takes a toll on people psychologically and physically, it seems as if some people are addicted to the feeling of being outraged. Come hear ideas of how to create a way to teach listening with less judgment and being a role-model in the ever-changing landscape of social media and the opinions of all around us.

9G - Cultivating Opportunity: The Power of Courage and Connection - Dr. Nicole Fields, Community Engagement Coordinator, Damien Sweeney, EdD - Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

Participants will learn to define diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging and discuss ways educators can make these concepts meaningful priorities at their schools. All will learn strategies to support traditionally underrepresented students. Lastly, recognize strategies to enable a multi-tiered system of support through integrated mental health.

9H- Strengthening Your Father HS Breakfast - J. Michael Hall, M.Ed.

Strong Fathers-Strong Families, LLC has worked face to face with over 250,000 dads in schools just like yours. Their proven programs are available to schools in their Strong Schools Event Kit which provides EVERYTHING you need to reach and teach large groups of dads and kids. Participants will learn how to Prepare, Promote, and Present for each event which includes Bring Your Dad to School Day, Dad and Kid Math Morning, Dad and Kid Science Night, and Dad and Kid Reading Night. All of the provided materials are available in English and Spanish. This curriculum also includes short video guides that are available on demand for each event.

10A - Empowering Adults to Work with Families and  Children Experiencing Trauma - Family Scholar House, Kristie Adams

Annette Breaux stated “everyone in the classroom has a story that leads to misbehavior or defiance.  9 times out of 10, the story behind the misbehavior won’t make you angry, it will break your heart”. This workshop will provide information on trauma-informed care.  Additionally, individuals will learn strategies/activities to use with children and families that create safety and empowerment for those exposed to or experiencing chronic and complex traumas.  Self-care for professionals will also be discussed.

10B - Putting a Stop to E-cigarette Use in Schools - Jaclyn Hodges, Kentucky Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program, Health Policy Specialist

If your school is like most others across the state and nation, vaping and e-cigarette use is a challenge to manage.  Learn what the role of FRYSCs can look like to help stop e-cigarette use at school.  We will discuss what the current landscape is for vaping and share information on the latest tobacco and nicotine products.  There are several resources that schools can implement and promote in order to assist students in becoming vape-free and to help prevent others from ever starting.

10C - Journaling 101 Love Notes - Kimberly Wilburn, Bloom and Blossom, HR Professional, Life Coach, Blogger

Love Notes is a workshop designed to help individuals learn the art of journaling. Journaling can be used as a way to process emotions, build self confidence and worth, heal from trauma, and used as a creative positive form of self expression. In the workshop students will learn what journaling is, its benefits, how to create their own journaling experience, tips and free journaling prompts.

This session is for those coordinators who signed up and reviewed the documentary series "Growing Up Black" in advance. We will review the questions you answered after viewing and have discussion in 6 small groups, with each group having a facilitator to help process the material. This will be a safe place for feelings to be shared and for all to learn and grow. You will receive 2.5 hours of PD for this session, but you must have done the pre-work to attend.

Make the connection between #hiphoped and student engagement. Understand what a small counseling group approaches through hip hop would feel like from a student's point of view. Lead students in a #hiphoped lesson. Understand the connection between #hiphoped and social/emotional learning.

TMRW (Teen Mental Resilience and Wellness) Club: Learn from youth leaders how you can help students cope with mental health in your school. Alina, Conner, Caden and Carlie are excited to show you ways to combat the issues teens are facing today. You will leave with many examples to bring back to your school as well as how to start a TMRW club.
